BICENTENARY CELEBRATION SERIES
INCA CHOQUEQUIRAO, CRADLE OF GOLD
LECTURE BY PETER FROST AND THIBAULT SAINTENOY
The Anglo Peruvian Society is delighted to welcome Peter Frost and Thibault Saintenoy present Inca Choquequirao, Cradle of Gold the dramatic Inca estate poised high above the colossal canyon through which the ‘Great Speaker’ River Apurimac churns. Though little known, the magnificent site commands a panoramic view of snow caps and glaciers as well as an improbable sweep of vertical irrigated terraces below the palace.
Recent restoration is intended to encourage tourism to other estates built by Inca Pachacutec in the Vilcabamba Cordillera, with the intention of releasing pressure on Machu Picchu.
Peter Frost is a participating National Geographic expert in Peru, and long term associate of Aracari Travel. Please find here links to Peter’s publications, including Exploring Cusco and Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary, and for Peter’s film library, including a video about the Wiracochan Archaeological Project.
Thibault Saintenoy has extensively surveyed the Apurimac valley around Choquequirao and he is currently an assistant professor at Antilles University.
We’d like to share this superb Choquequirao documentary in French with Thibault, filmed in 2018 with the archaeologist Peter Eeckhout from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles.
